John & Trude Bethell Paice

Well you are in luck this time.  Due to some late changes there is still accommodation available for the NZ Labour Holiday weekend which starts on Friday 24th (or earlier – if you like.)

Te Koinga cottage is available throughout this weekend. Thursday and Friday nights are available in Wairua apartment and Turehu Cottage.

A quick phone call to (09) 8109 581 is highly recommended. If you have other weekend or holiday bookings you want to check – it’s a good idea to enquire about them as well.

New Bethells website

by editor ~ August 25th, 2008

Welcome to our relaunched website. We have been planning some changes and we hope and trust you like the results so far.  The new system also makes it more simple to add news updates and other content.

One of the new functions is the ability to use an RSS feed* of all posts on the website (not the static pages) which you can access by clicking on the orange icon or this link.

There will be a few more changes to come. Check back soon. Thanks for your interest.

* What is an RSS feed and why would I use one? The quick answer is here or click the link for more detail.

“RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document (which is called a “feed” or “web feed” or “channel”) contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text.”

Steve Abel & the Chrysalids with special guest Kirsten Morrell

brought to you by Bethells Beach Cottages in Association with Aotearoa Vibrations

Abelsong LogoTo celebrate winter solstice and the launch of his new album Flax Happy, Steve Abel will play an early evening, seated gig in the pavilion at the Bethells Cottages. Kirstens set will begin at 5.30 and Steve will take the stage around 7.30pm however the venue is open from 2.30. pm for those who want to enjoy an afternoon at Bethells.

Steve’s band, described as a kiwi super group, are Geoff Maddock – song writer and lead guitarist for Golden Horse, Milan Borich -front man for Pluto on drums and Mike Hall, Milans band-mate on double bass. A cracker little line up.

His debut album Little Death attracted glowing reviews and in 2006 won Alternatui Album of the year.

Geoff Kirsten & SteveNot one to do things by halves his special guest is the very talented lead singer of Golden Horse Kirsten Morrell, performing material from her forthcoming solo album.

We’ll be in the background offering a delicious range of wood fired pizzas from our pukka new pizza oven, along with a selection of tasty beverages from the bar.

This will be one of Steve’s last performances before he relocates to Switzerland.

Fortunately our tickets are just $20 but there’s only 100 of them so do not be caught with your pants down because you dilly dallied around. This gig is unique.

Tickets for sale from Trude Bethell Paice 09 810 9581 – info@bethellsbeach.com or at the venue on the night. (You’ll need to book)

Flax HappyListen to Steve’s music on abelsong.com or Kirsten on goldenhorse.co.nz

“Flax Happy also features the talents of Texan luminary Jolie Holland – a longtime fan of Abel, who lends her distinctive voice to Abel’s own unique husky vocal on two songs; and acclaimed local songstress Anika Moa, who shares a hauntingly poignant bilingual duet with Abel.”

House Keeping
Grounds open at 2.30pm and car parking will be available near the venue on Ross Bethells land. Fill your pockets with dosh as we are running a cash bar and Steve and Kirsten will both have their albums for sale at the gig.
