About Us

Your hosts Trude Bethell and John Paice live by the motto, to give is to love and to love is to live. - written by Trude Bethell

Trude (with John walking alongside her) is 5th generation guardian of this slice of paradise, offering hospitality on the Bethell family land. They are honoured to be in this magical part of New Zealand, welcoming visitors from around the world.

Trude and John are an inspiration and share in some great local history and a good dose of pioneering spirit. They are not only specialised in providing unique lodging, but they have vast experience over many years when it comes to events.

Their unique lives are reflected in the “little touches” that make a stay at the cottages a very special experience.

Trude has loved her celebrancy work for over 30 years and will travel when needed.

Through her life of mentoring, healing, wisdom and love of life she continue to support personalised ceremonies with both individuals.

Both Trude and John appreciate that most guests prefer absolute privacy but wish you to know they are on hand to share their extensive knowledge of the local area.

They look forward to sharing the magic of Bethells Beach Cottages and this breathtaking place with you.

Our History

Original Bethells settler John Neale Bethell was removed from school at the age of nine and sent with his brother to clear family land in the Waitakere forest.

We invite you to read John’s memoirs of his remarkable life on the west coast and discover the fascinating history behind the Bethells' family farm.
